Why autofocus industrial cameras are not common
Some industrial cameras have an output port that can drive an automatic zoom lens, can be connected to an automatic three-variable lens, and can realize software automatic focus adjustment. Note that it is focus adjustment, not automatic focus. You can develop your own autofocus algorithm based on this kind of camera. The algorithm is implemented externally, not written into the camera.
The camera comes with an image processing algorithm that can evaluate the focus. The field of machine vision focuses more on industrial automation production. The environment is specific, the object distance is basically unchanged, and the manual focus can be used during deployment. Furthermore, during production, the system has extremely high requirements on accuracy and stability. Engineers have spent a lot of energy to meet the requirements. If autofocus is used, unstable factors will be introduced. Very troublesome. At present, there is little demand for this in the field of machine vision.
